What the GABL Future is all about

What is the GABL Future program?

What started as the GABL Elite team program in 2008 has evolved over the years due to committed parents, players and coaches.  The program has re-branded as the GABL Future because we believe it better explains why we created it in the first place.

We want athletes to play multiple sports.

Players do not need to specialize in one sport in 4th, 5th, 6th 7th or even 8th grade.  This program gives the athlete a chance to practice and compete at a high level with professional coaches without committing to an entire year.

The GABL Future has 4 different seasons that total 11 months of the year with each season having different commitment expectations.  A 5 month program in the Spring/Summer and a 2 plus month season in the Fall.  We have 2 Winter sessions both being 2 months each (November-December and January-February.

You can choose to try-out for any or all of these seasons.

We want our community's athletes to be well- rounded.  Play football, play soccer, play baseball, run track, play volleyball, and when your basketball season comes around for you, play with the GABL Future.

We want to give our athletes an opportunity to make their high school team.  We aren't going to talk to you about college scholarships and recruiting while these kids are in grade and middle school.

There is no reason to.

We need to concentrate on fundamentals and your child's growth as an athlete and person.

We are investing in our athletes Future.....hence the name.

Welcome to GABL Future!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many games do we play in?
A:  Roughly 30-33 games in the Spring/Summer season and 13-14 in the Fall season. The spring/summer season starts the first week of March and lasts through July. We play in both leagues and tournaments, the coaches of each team decide if they want to play in league or just concentrate on tournaments. In the tournaments, we play in a range from 3-5 games.  The fall season starts in August and concludes at the end of October.  The Winter season is November through February with a minimum of 27 games in the session.

Q: What is the practice schedule?
A:  Our practice times are set up by the coaching staff. Each grade/team is different and designed by each individual coach. All teams have 2, one and a half hour practices each week of each season.

Q: Where are tournaments, leagues and practices held?
A:  The majority of practices are held at our NEW facility at Homefield (2115 E Kansas City Rd, Olathe, KS), the home the GABL Academy but occasionally we use Shawnee Mission Schools, City Center Fitness and Olathe School District Facilities.  League games and tournaments are held throughout the Kansas City Metro Area and occasionally Lawrence and Topeka.

Q: How many players are on a team?
A: Teams range from 9-11 players.

Q: When will we find out if our child made the team?
A: Teams will be announced via email and you will have to log into your account and accept your child's spot within 3 days.

Q: How is playing time handled?
A: We can't say that everyone will play equally but we do say that everyone will get similar minutes. Practice participation and game availability will factor into playing time.

Q: How many teams will be formed?
A: The number of teams is determined by the number of players who try out for the program.

Q: What do coaches look for in tryouts?
A: Coaches look for a variety of skills. Dribbling/ball handling, shooting, defensive skills are all important to the game of basketball and are necessary to play on these teams.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: During the months your athlete is playing with the GABL Future there is a charge of $190 per month plus the cost of your uniform and shooter shirt.  If the season starts in the middle of the month then there is usually a pro-rated cost depending on how much of the month they are playing.  That includes all practices, tournament entries, league registration fees, coaches salaries, insurance, and equipment.  The only additional cost you will incur throughout the season is at tournament events and any team spirit wear you would like to purchase. Spectator tournament entry fees usually run anywhere from $5-$10.  The Spring/Summer Season has 5 payments, the Fall Season has 2 to 3 payments depending on gender/program and the Winter Seasons have 4 payments.

Uniforms are an additional cost. Not included in the registration. Coach and his/her players will choose their uniform after tryouts.
